Many of the top junior college players in the country are flying off the board with the signing period quickly approaching. Here is a look at the latest commitments and recruiting news from the JUCO scene.
D’Montre Edwards, who saw his stock surge this summer, gave a verbal commitment to Cuonzo Martin and the Tennessee Volunteers. Before the summer Edwards was very close to giving College of Charleston a commitment, but he had multiple mid to high majors pursue him after his performance during the off-season. Edwards is a smooth 6-foot-6/210-pound wing who does an nice job of mixing it up offensively. His size and length allows him to defend multiple positions. Edwards chose the Vols over Depaul, Texas A&M, Mississippi St. and College of Charleston.
Elijah Pittman (6-8/220) gave a verbal to Marshall. The Thundering Herd have had recent success recruiting junior college bigs (Robert Goff/Dennis Tinnon in 2011 class). Pittman is currently at Lamar State – Port Arthur, number 21 in our JucoRecruiting.com Top 50. He spent last season at Chipola College and averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds per game.
Billy Gillespie and Texas Tech reached back into the JUCO ranks and picked up a commitment from Rodrigo Silva of Laramie County CC. Silva is a skilled 6-foot-11 post player who has good hands and feet.
