Recruiting info on top prospects as well

Round 1 is now complete at the NJCAA D1 National Tournament and there are 16 teams left. Round 2 begins today (Tuesday at 2pm). Round 2 runs through Wednesday night with Hutchinson CC playing the prime-time game at 8pm.

Here is a look at players who stood out in round 1.

Dale Jones (6’8/2015) Tyler JC:  Dale Jones has had an excellent season for Tyler and helped them make a run through the Region 14 tournament. Jones is a very skilled small forward who has the ability to stretch the floor with good range on his jumper. Jones has plenty of high-major interest from schools like Iowa, Minnesota, Virginia Tech and many others. Jones has an official offer from Iowa and it looks as if he could set up a visit soon. Jones had 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in a first round win over Faulkner St.  Tyler JC plays Connors State in the first game of round 2, which tips at 2pm CST today.

AJ Patty (6’8/2015) Vincennes University:  Patty had a huge game for Vincennes in a 90-60 win over Cochise (AZ). The forward  made a variety of post moves and mid-range jumpers and ended up with 27 points (11-15 from the field) and 8 rebounds. Patty has offers from Bradley, Morehead State and San Jose State along with interest from plenty of others.

Mychal Mulder (6’4/2015) Vincennes University: Mulder is one of the most heavily-recruited players playing in the National Tournament. Mulder saw a box and one from Cochise for much of the first half and parts of the second half. He scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half and was 9 for 13 from the field. Mulder is very controlled and lets the game come to him without forcing the issue on the offensive end and also grabbed 8 rebounds. Mulder had head coaches from Indiana, Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas State, Creighton and Wichita State. It looks as if Indiana may be close to pulling the trigger on an offer for Mulder, but that hasn’t happened yet. Vincennes plays South Plains’ today in a second round matchup, which tips at 4:30pm CST.

Everett Clemons (6’2/2015) Vincennes University: Clemons didn’t score a point in the win over Cochise, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t impact the game. Clemons had 11 assits and 7 rebounds and did an excellent job of running the show for VU. He picked up an offer from Indiana State after his performance.

Daryl Macon (6’3/2016) Holmes CC: Macon had a huge game for Holmes and helped them knock off Eastern Florida in a first round matchup. The freshman from Little Rock, AR had 29 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the win and was 14-15 from the free throw line. Macon already has heavy interest from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi St and several other SEC schools. He will be one of the more heavily-recruited 2016 prospects at the JC level.  Holmes plays their second round game tonight at 6:30pm CST against Indian Hills CC.

Tyrell Bellot-Green (6’7/2015) Hill College: Bellot-Green is a 6’7 forward who is at his best when on the perimeter and facing up in the mid and high post. He is a very good shooter (46% from three on the season). The Canadian forward had 26 points in a 2 point win over Gillette College. He was 8-15 from the field and made 5 threes. He has plenty of mid-major interest, which could pick up if he continues to play well in Hutchinson.

Jemerrio Jones (6’6/2016) Hill College: Jones is one of the most active players in junior college basketball and is extremely productive. He has had several triple doubles this season and averages 13 points, 13 rebounds and 7.4 assists on the year. Jones had 19 points and 16 rebounds in the win over Gillette. He also knocked down the game winning free-throws with .2 seconds left to secure the game for Hill. Hill College plays Mineral Area CC in a second round matchup, which tips at 8:30pm CST tonight.

TJ Dunans (6’6/2015) Columbia St: The Auburn signee had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in a win over San Jacinto. Dunans picked up the pace in the second half and made some big plays down the stretch by attacking the basket. Dunans has good size, length and athletic ability for a perimeter player and uses that to his advantage. Columbia plays NW Florida State at noon on Wednesday in a second round matchup.

Jamonte Graham/TJ Cromer/Justin Pride - Columbia St: Columbia’s guards came up big in the win over San Jacinto by knocking down huge shots form the perimeter throughout the second half. Graham has 19 points/4 rebounds and Cromer had 15 points/6 rebounds. Both guards made multiple threes and point guard Justin Pride (Cal State Bakersfield signee) ran the show for Columbia. Pride is one of the best point guards in JC basketball, he had 8 assists and only 1 turnover. He does and excellent job of running the show and controlling the game for Columbia.

Anthony Vanhook (6’4/2015) Cape Fear CC: Vanhook may be and undersized forward, but he is always effective. He’s averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds on the season for Cape Fear and had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in an upset win over John A. Logan in round one.  Cape Fear plays Northwest College (WY) in round 2, which tips at 2pm on Wednesday.

Ty Toney (6’2/2015) Georgia Highlands:  Toney had a huge game for GA Highlands and led them to their first national tournament win in their program’s short three-year history. Toney, an Appalachian State transfer, finished with 31 points while shooting 14-17 from the field. Toney it a mixture of deep jumpers, pull ups and scored at the rim as well.  He should pick up plenty of recruiting interest after his performance in round one. Georgia Highlands plays the College of Southern Idaho in round two on Wednesday.

Dedrick Basile (5’11/2015) Trinity Valley: The TVCC point guard helped his team secure a come from behind victory over Monroe College in round 1. Basile, a Cal State Bakersfield signee, hit several huge threes down the stretch and distributed the ball very well. TVCC will play Hutchinson CC on their home court.
