Junior college players garner the most attention when they head for the bright lights of a NCAA Division 1 program, but before that happens many prospects will transfer from one JUCO to another or from Division 1 to a JUCO.
Titus Rubles (6-8, 205/PF) will be leaving Independence CC (KS) and heading to Blinn College in Texas for his sophomore year. Rubles averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game this season and was named 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-Region and Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year.
Two former Chipola players will be suiting up at different junior colleges next season. Elijah Pittman and Geron Johnson, both 2012 prospects, were dismissed from Chipola in early April after multiple arrests. Both were sentenced to 6 months of jail time after violating rules set by a judge in Florida. Several sources have told JucoRecruiting.com that Pittman is headed to Lamar State – Port Arthur (TX) and Johnson is headed to Garden City CC in (KS). If Pittman and Johnson can stay out of trouble, look for them to be impact players immediately.
The loss of these high level players will sting, but Jake Headrick and his staff didn’t take long to fill some holes on their roster. Chipola has signed three Division 1 transfers for the 2011-12 season: Tevin Baskin (6-7/F – transfer from Quinnipiac), Jason Carter (6-8/PF – transfer from Alabama) and P.J. Lockeridge (6-6/SF – transfer from Rhode Island). Throw in freshman Joseph Uchebo (6-10, 240), who originally signed with NC State, and Chipola could have one of the better front lines in the country.
