I was able to check out some quality scrimmages this past Friday at Navarro College between Navarro, Ranger and Salt Lake. Here are some takeaways from these three teams:

Standouts

6’3 CG James Lee (2021) of Salt Lake CC – Lee was terrific creating off the bounce and attacking the rim. His athleticism showed with a few amazing finishes at the rim. He also showed the capability of knocking down the 3 ball when left open

6’9 F Akol Mawein (2021) of Navarro College – The Arkansas Commit showed his versatility shooting the 3, attacking off the bounce and scoring inside. Mawein is one of top prospects in all of JUCO.

6’3 SG Trey Tennyson (2021) of Ranger College – Tennyson made shots from all over. He has deep range on his jumper and a quick release. The D1 Transfer from Central CT State showed he can score in bunches

Sleepers

6’5 W Marvin Price (2021) of Salt Lake CC – The D1 transfer from Ohio competed every possession. He made several outside shots and finished at the rim. Price should have a great year for Salt Lake

6’4 W Jorell Saterfield (2021) of Ranger College – Saterfield was the most productive player of the day. He lets the game come to him. He does a great job of finishing in transition and knocking down open shots

6’2 PG Da’Vantre Vitor (2021) of Salt Lake CC – Vitor put pressure on the defense and created for teammates. He harassed the other teams ball handlers. He has great length and size for PG position

6’6 SF Ed Manuel (2021) of Navarro College – Manuel does all the dirty work. He rebounds and defends at a high level. He had several putbacks and midrange jumpers throughout the day

Qualifiers To Know

6’8 F Bendji Pierre of Salt Lake CC – Pierre has a lot of potential and upside. He has great frame and plays inside and out. He has a good-looking jumper and can put the ball on the floor. He competes and rebounds really well

6’0 CG Antonee Abraham of Navarro College – Abraham is quick and can score from all 3 levels. He has great midrange and makes good decisions coming off ballscreens

6’4 SG Max Watson of Salt Lake CC – Watson made shots all day. He moves well without the ball, has a great feel and good looking stroke

Other Notes

7’0 C Souleymane Doumbia (2021) of Navarro College – The TCU Commit is one of the more physically imposing players in all of JUCO. He dunks everything around the rim and plays extremely hard

6’9 F Jay Allen Tovar (2021) of Salt Lake CC – Tovar could be one of the best forwards in all of JUCO. He made several 3’s, rebounded well and finished above the rim. He just needs consistent motor and production

6’1 PG Drue Drinnon (2021) of Navarro College – Drinnon is D1 Transfer from New Mexico. He is steady PG that makes shots, gets in the paint, makes FT’s and runs the show. The Front court of Akol Mawein, Brian Washington and Souleymane Doumbia will benefit from playing alongside Drinnon

6’1 SG Keisei Tominaga (2021) of Ranger College – The Nebraska Commit didn’t have the best day shooting but still showed his IQ and passing ability. He is one of best shooters in all of JUCO
