Brennan Rigsby burst onto the JUCO scene this season and has been recruited by a variety of mid and high-major programs. Rigsby, a 6'3 guard, is a freshman who played last season at Wasatch Academy. He is averaging 11.3 PPG and 3 RPG this season while shooting 46% from the field and 37% from the three-point line.

Before committing to Oregon, Rigsby held offers from Oklahoma, Georgia, Wichita State, Buffalo, Radford, Mercer, New Mexico State, and Samford.

We were able to catch up with Rigsby as well as NW Florida State head coach, Greg Heiar, to discuss Rigsby's commitment to Oregon.

We asked NW Florida State head coach, Greg Heiar, where he first saw Rigsby and how he began recruiting him. Heiar said, "We first saw him on January 8th, 2021 while watching the St. James Invitational in DC via computer live stream while in quarantine in my basement. We loved the way he competed and noticed he was a fluid athlete/mover with great technique and elevation on his jump shot. We knew he just needed to add strength and weight to be a high-level player. Once we started talking with him and his family, we knew what hard-working and high-character young man he was as well. He is a tremendous listen/try/apply and compete type of dude! This is only the beginning for Rigs!"

We discussed the commitment and what junior college has been like with Rigsby.

JucoRecruiting: First off, congrats on your commitment to Oregon.  You’ve had a really good year, and have shown a lot of development since High School.  What’s the last year been like for you up to this point?

Brennan Rigsby: Thank you! Development was a big part of why I came to Northwest Florida. It’s been a great year working with Coach Heiar.

JucoRecruiting: You guys have been at the top of the rankings all year, hit a rough patch this week, but still have high expectations.  Tell us about the goals ahead.

Brennan Rigsby:  Our goal is to try and win the conference and state championships, and then go for a national championship.

JucoRecruiting: How was the recruiting process for you, dating back to high school?  Your recruiting really seemed to pick up this fall and as the season went along.

Brennan Rigsby: Covid really hurt my high school recruitment, but it slowly picked up throughout the year.

JucoRecruiting:  You mentioned in your commitment post that you used to run around in Ducks gear, what made you an Oregon fan so early?

Brennan Rigsby: As a kid watched a lot of college sports and loved how they played so Oregon always was my favorite team.

JucoRecruiting: That has to be a great feeling to see them come through the door, and ultimately want you to be there! What was your mindset once they started recruiting you?

Brennan Rigsby: It was a great feeling! My mindset was still the same. I wanted the right fit and great culture.

JucoRecruiting: You mentioned that you like the way they play, how do you see yourself fitting in & what do you think you can bring to the Ducks on Day 1?

Brennan Rigsby: Spacing the floor is definitely something I bring as well as running the floor and using my athleticism.

JucoRecruiting: Have you gotten a chance to talk to former Northwest Florida/Oregon guard Chris Duarte? That's not a bad path to follow!

Brennan Rigsby: I haven’t been able to talk with Chris. Hopefully, I can in the future but I hope I can do what he’s done!
