Won vs #24 Ohlone 67-65

Winners of 8 straight and a share of the lead in the Coast Conference, Chabot College out of Northern California is our first CCCAA Team of the Week this season.  The Gladiators moved to 16-8 on the season, and 9-1 in league play after a 2-0 week versus two ranked teams at home.  CC is led in scoring by All-American Juco Top 200 Invitational, Jaiden Rivera (14.3ppg), David Hector (13.3ppg) & freshman Zach Broadous (13.5ppg).  Sophomore Diggy Winbush is the 4th double-digit scorer (12.3ppg) for a very deep team that is primed for a deep run in the upcoming California playoffs.

Last week Coach Keenan McMiller’s group welcomed perennial power CCFC to campus, and the Gladiators were ready for the battle for first place.  Winbush led all scorers (26p/5r/4a), and Broadous connected on 5 of 10 from deep (25p/4r) to account for 51 of Chabot’s 89 points, which was just good enough to put away CCSF 89-87 in a very physical contest that saw  56 FT attempts between both sides combined.  Hector collected a double/double with 10 points & 10 rebounds in a win that by the end of the night would put Chabot & CCSF in a tie atop the Coast Conference standings. The win over CCSF was the first win for Chabot over San Fran since 2015.

Following up on the emotional win the Gladiators had little time to celebrate as they hosted #24 Ohlone on Friday.  Winbush once again raised his level of play to help keep the win streak alive.  Diggy scored 18 points to lead all scorers and snatched 8 steals on the night.  David Hector finished with 15 points/ 7 rebounds on a night that defense was a priority, and the Gladiators forced 17 turnovers to help their cause.  The win was the 9th in a row for Chabot, who has 4 regular season games remaining in their hunt for the Coast Conference-North Division crown.  They will go on the road to face Las Positas (No Spectators Allowed) on Wednesday, February 8th.
