WON at #18 Bryant & Stratton 84-71

This week's JucoRecruiting.com National Team of The Week is Davidson-Davie, the top-ranked NJCAA D2 program in the country.  Coach Matt Ridge has had his team firing on all cylinders throughout their undefeated season.  The Storm’s identity rests on its half-court pressure defense, ranking near the top in several categories on the defensive side of the ball.  They are 8th in the NJCAA D2 rankings in Total Rebounds (46.5), and 8th in Offensive Rebounds (15.5 ORpg).

This past week Davidson-Davie beat Louisburg at home in a tale of two halves.  The Storm took a 33-29 lead into halftime but came out after the break with a different sense of urgency.  Coach Ridge’s group used their pressure defense to create turnovers that allowed them to get out in transition early in the 2nd half, outscoring Louisburg 59-33 in the second frame.  They were led by Jaheim Taylor who finished with 18 points, and 8 rebounds to go along with 2/5 from the 3-point line.  6’6 forward Chase Mebane has been a statistical leader all year for DD, and he finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds in the win.  The Storm rank 3rd in the country FTA, and finished 19-22 from the line.

On Saturday, Davidson-Davie traveled to 18th-ranked Bryant & Stratton hoping to keep their winning streak alive.  In a flip-flop of fortunes, The Storm raced out to a 51-33 halftime lead and never trailed in the game.  Mebane led the way with 26 points and 8 rebounds, knocking down 1 of his 2 3pt attempts.  Taylor solidified the 1-2 punch by tallying 22 points, going 6/8 from distance to run away with the victory.

Coach Ridge’s club has 3 remaining regular season games before heading into the playoffs, starting with a D1 opponent in Gaston College tonight at home.  The Storm will be seeking their first undefeated regular season in school history.
