Junior college recruiting will begin to pick up heavily over the next two months. Most players who are still unsigned wait until after the season to take their official visits and choose a school. Here’s a look at the latest JUCO recruiting news over the past week.

Coty Clarke (pictured/6’7/225) of Lawson State CC (AL) has been having a huge year and his recruitment is picking up steam. Clarke, who is averaging 16 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5 assists per game, recently picked up an offer from Georgia. Clarke is a strong/physical forward who can score the ball with his back to the basket and step out and shoot the three. He is shooting 56% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. Clarke also has interest/offers from , Southern Miss, Iona, Detroit, Coloroda State, UAB, Duqensee, Central Michigan and Middle Tennessee State among others. Clarke plans on taking his visits after the season.

The University of Detroit picked up a verbal commitment from Jermaine Lippert  (6’8/230) of Sheridan CC in Wyoming. As a sophomore, Lippert has averaged 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 59% from the field, 47% from three, and 73% from the free throw line for head coach Steve Smiley.

Iona picked up a verbal commitment from Ice Asorte (6’7/240) of Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. Asorte is a rugged/physical post player who can defend and pound the glass. Iona has done an excellent job recruiting JUCO transfers (i.e. Mike Glover) and this year is no different. Asorte is their third JUCO transfer in this year’s class.

James Johnson of Central Wyoming has given a verbal commitment to Cal State Fullerton. Johnson is averaging 14 points and 6 rebounds this season while shooting 71% from the field.
