Jameel McKay, a 6’8 power forward from Indian Hills CC, has picked up major interest after his fist year of junior college. McKay, who is a Milwaukee native, didn’t play organized basketball until his junior year of high school. He picked up some high major interest during his senior year, but didn’t qualify academically. It didn’t take him long to figure out the game. McKay said, “As a junior I averaged ten points per game, and as a senior I averaged twenty-six and was city player of they year. Marquette, Depaul and Iowa State came on very strong at the end of my senior year, but I didn’t qualify so I had to go to a junior college.”

McKay has been heavily recruited all season, but his performance at the NJCAA D1 National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS made him one of the most sought after prospects in the 2013 JUCO class. McKay has a big-time motor and is extremely active on and off the ball. He is very athletic/skilled around the rim and gives consistent effort on both ends. McKay discussed why he always plays so hard. He said, “I wasn’t always heavily recruited from a young age. I was overlooked, so I feel like I always have something to prove.”

McKay plans on making his decision this fall and signing in October before the junior college season gets underway. He talked about what he wants from a school at the next level. He explained, “I’m looking for a staff that will help push and be all I can be. I want a coach who has history with JUCO players and wants to push me to get to the NBA. I want to be an NBA draft pick.”

McKay said he has offers from Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa State, Missouri, Memphis, USC, Wichita State and Marquette.

McKay said as of right now his top six schools are (in no particular order): Indiana, Florida, Iowa State, Memphis, Marquette and Wichita State. He is taking an unofficial visit to Marquette today.

McKay will participate in the All-American JUCO Showcase Elite 80 West event this summer in Las Vegas, NV on July 27-29.
