Sam Cassell Jr., who was recently ruled ineligible to play at the University of Maryland by the NCAA, has signed a letter of intent to play this season at Chipola College. Cassell Jr. is the son of former NBA player Sam Cassell. He will team up with Xavier commit Chris Thomas and former N.C. State commit Joseph Uchebo (6-11/C) this season at Chipola.

Cassell attended Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts last season and planned on playing at Maryland this season, but the NCAA recently announced that he was only a partial qualifier. Maryland doesn’t accept partial qualifiers, so many thought that he would transfer to a school that does accept them. If Cassell would have done this he would have been able to enroll and play during his second season at the school. He will now stay at Chipola for two seasons and have to earn his associates degree and meet NCAA academic requirements for JUCO transfers to be able to attend Maryland or any other school of his choice.
