How they fared: Breaking down the NJCAA D1 Top 25

Here is our weekly look at how the top 25 NJCAA D1 teams fared last week. Rankings are listed in order by last week’s NJCAA rankings. Records are current through Tuesday, January 22.

#1 Hutchinson CC (KS) 19-0 - Hutch took care of business during their first week at #1. They beat a very good Barton CC team 79-77 on Jan. 16th and beat Colby CC 79-61 on Sunday. Hutch hosts Pratt CC on Wednesday. They are doing a great job getting the ball to the rim as a team. They rank 6th in the country in FT’s attempted and 7th in FT’s made.

#2 Palm Beach State (FL) 20-1 - Palm Beach suffered their first loss of the year on Jan. 16th to Brevard CC 73-66. Look for them to drop several spots. They head to Broward CC on Wednesday.

#3 Iowa Western CC 20-1 - Iowa Western suffered their first loss of the season on Jan. 19th at Indian Hills 79-64. They host Marshalltown on January 23rd. IWCC will get another shot at Indian Hills on Feb. 9th at home.

#4 Vincennes (IN) 19-0 - Vincennes won three games since last week’s poll. They beat Shawnee CC 62-45, beat John A. Logan 76-65 and beat SW Illinois College 73-69. Vincennes is led by Deshawn Delaney (17ppg, 8rpg) and Darius Carter (14ppg, 8rpg). Look for them to move to #2 in the country.

#5 Spartanburg Methodist (SC) 18-0 - Spartanburg beat Brunswick CC 71-66 in their only game of the week. They host USC Salkehatchie on Jan. 24.

#6 NW Florida State 18-1 - NW Florida was idle last week and returns to action this week. They host a solid Gulf Coast State team tomorrow and travel to Chipola on Saturday.

#7 Chipola (FL) 19-2 – After dropping two games in a row, Chipola was able to bounce back and beat Gulf Coast State by 12 on the road. They have a tough week as they head to Tallahassee CC today and host NW Florida on Saturday.

#8 Howard College (TX) 16-3 - Howard lost to New Mexcio JC on Jan. 17th and beat Odessa College last night 77-64. They host Western Texas College on Jan. 24th. Cameron Forte is still leading the way, scoring 23 points per game.

#9 Coffeyville CC (KS) 17-1 - Coffeyville won three games last week and exteneded their winning streak to 11 games. They won by double digits over Johnson County CC and Allen County CC, and won 77-74 at Highland CC (KS) yesterday. They host Labette CC tomorrow. They continue to pound the glass. They are first in the country in offensive rebounds per game and 1st in total rebounds per game.

#10 Indian Hills CC (IA) 19-2 - Indian Hills had a very good week and should move up several spots this week. They score 103 points per game, which is #1 in the country. They hung 120 points on Northeast CC beating them 120-89 and had a huge win over #3 Iowa Western CC, handing them their first loss of the season. Marquette signee Jameel McKay is leading the way averaging 18 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

#11 Chattahoochee Tech (GA) 19-1 - Chattahoochee won by 13 at Georgia Perimeter on Jan. 16th and beat Gordon College 75-68 at home on Jan. 20th. They head to East Georgia College tomorrow.

#12 New Mexico JC 17-2 - New Mexico JC had another very good week. They beat #8 Howard College on the road 76-70 and beat Frank Phillips College on the road 82-60 yesterday. New Mexico JC is now 6-0 in true road games. They host Claredon College on Jan. 24th.

#13 Barton CC (KS) 16-3 - Barton lost 79-77 at #1 Hutchinson CC on Jan. 16th and have been idle since. They host Colby CC tomorrow.

#14 North Idaho College 19-3 - North Idaho had two convincing wins last week. They beat the College of Eastern Utah 71-44 and beat Colorado Northwest CC 104-46. They host Snow College on Jan. 24 and Salt Lake CC on Jan. 26.

#15 Salt Lake CC (UT) 18-2 - Salt Lake won by one point on the road at Snow College on Jan. 19th extending their winning streak to 14 games. They have two tough road games this week as the travel to the College of Southern Idaho on Jan. 24th and North Idaho College on the 26th.

#16 Hagerstwon CC (MD) 18-2 - Hagerstown beat CCBC Dundalk 120-62 on Jan. 16th and beat Anne Arundel CC 102-82 on the 19th. They play at Cecil CC tomorrow.

#17 Kilgore College (TX) 17-2 - Kilgore won two games last week. They won at Trinity Valley on Jan. 16th 73-62 and beat Panola College 71-53 on Saturday. Their next game is on the road against Paris JC tomorrow.

#18 Connors State (OK) 13-3 - Connors St. was idle last week. They play at Eastern Oklahoma State on Jan. 24th.

#19 South Plains (TX) 14-4- South Plains beat Western Texas College 66-46 on Jan. 17th. They travel to Odessa College on Jan. 24th.

#20 Middle Georgia College 13-3 - Middle Georgia beat Waycross College 64-56 on Jan. 16th and Atlanta Metro College 60-52. They play Georgia Perimeter on the road on Jan. 23rd.

#21 College of Central Florida 20-2 - Central FL beat Rise Academy 113-70 on Jan. 16th and won at Santa Fe College 93-79. They host Daytona State College on Jan. 23rd.

#22 San Jacinto College (TX) 13-4 - San Jacincto lost by 3 to Angelina College on Jan. 16th. They won at Lamar State Port Arthur by 2 on Jan. 19th. They play Lone Stare College – Tomball today.

#23 East Georgia College 17-1 - East Georgia won at Georgia Highlands 91-64 and at Georgia Perimeter 48-43. They host Chattahoochee Tech tomorrow.

#24 Central Arizona College 17-3 - Central Arizona won at Phoenix College 57-54 on Jan. 16th and beat Glendale CC 93-87 at home on Jan. 19th. They play at South Mountain CC tomorrow.

#25 Mineral Area College 17-3 - Mineral Area has been idle since Jan. 12th. They play at Moberly Area CC tomorrow.
