Vincennes is the only unbeaten team in JUCO basketball

As the regular season winds down, each game can impact a team’s chance of making the NJCAA D1 National Tournament.  There are four true at-large bids for teams who don’t get an automatic bid or one of four rotating zone bids.

For many teams this week is their last full week of the regular season. Here is a look at how the top 10 teams fared from last week’s NJCAA Top 25 Poll

1) Vincennes (27-0) – Vincennes took care of business again last week by winning two games and is the only unbeaten JC team in the country. They beat an always-tough John A. Logan team and then beat Southwestern Illinois.  VU has three regular season games remaining, two of which are at home. Mychal Mulder is leading the Trailblazers in scoring at 14.7 per game.

2) Hill College (26-1) – Hill College won both of their games last week over Colin County and McLennan CC. Hill has two regular season games left. They travel to Ranger College and host Temple College this week. Marcus Johnson Jr. is leading Hill in points per game (17.0 ) and assists per game (8.3).

3) Northwest Florida State (25-1) – NW Florida won both of their games last week as well. They won on the road at Tallahassee CC and beat Pensacola JC at home. They play at Gulf Coast State, who handed NW FL their only loss of the season, and host Chipola this week to finish out the regular season. The trio of Benji Bell, Jalen Jackson and Brandon Austin has been leading the way for NW Florida all season.

4) Connors State (25-1) – Connors State is riding a 23 game winning streak since starting the season 2-1. Their only loss was to Arkansas Baptist, who they beat last week 101-66. Connors has four games remaining on their schedule to finish up the regular season.

5) Butler CC (25-2) – Butler lost their second game of the season at Barton last week. This loss will drop them several spots when the new Top 25 Poll is released this week. Look for Southern Idaho to jump up to at least the #5 spot in the country.

6) College of Southern Idaho (27-1) – CSI won both of their games last week over Colorado Northwest CC and Eastern Utah. They have two tough road games this week at Salt Lake CC and at Eastern Utah to finish up their regular season schedule.

7) Eastern Florida (26-3) – Eastern Florida took care of business last week by knocking off Palm Beach State and Miami Dade. They host Broward College this week, which is their final regular season game. Iowa transfer Kyle Meyer is leading the way for Eastern Florida. The 6’10 forward is averaging 15 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

 8) Trinity Valley CC (24-3)  - TVCC beat Panola College and Tyler College convincingly last week. They have three games left on their regular season slate, two of which are road games. Cal State Bakersfield signee Dedrick Basile is leading Trinity Valley in scoring at 14.9 ppg and assists (7.9 apg.)

9) SW Tennessee CC (20-3) – SW Tennessee lost their third game of the year to #22 Motlow State on Saturday. They have to regular season games remaining, both of which are at home against Chattanooga State and Cleveland State.

10) Mineral Area CC (22-3) – Mineral Area lost to their third game of the season last week against Three Rivers CC 77-71.  They have two home games left against St. Louis CC and State Fair CC.
