Wabash Valley guard, DeAngelo Isby, has been one of the most heavily recruited JUCO guards in the country since July.  At 6’5, the shooting guard has great size, versatility and the ability to make plays from all over the court.  He proved to be one of the more complete players in the country after averaging 15 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game last season in a very tough Region 24.  Head Coach Mike Carpenter said this about Isby “DeAngelo is a great example of the benefit of playing JUCO basketball.  His work ethic and willingness to learn have helped him flourish into a highly recruited player.  D-Lo is a great kid and the sky is the limit for him on the court.  The coaches who have seen him rave about his size and scoring ability, but our coaches (at Wabash Valley) can’t say enough about how good of a kid he is. He’s going to be a bigtime success no matter where he chooses.”

Isby currently has 12 offers and will most likely receive more as coaches keep coming through practices and games this upcoming season.  He holds offers from Arkansas State, Western Illinois, Nebraska Omaha, Illinois Chicago, Portland State, Utah State, Quinnipiac, Norfolk State, Green Bay, New Orleans, Southern Illinois, and Albany.  Washington State and numerous other schools are scheduled to come see him workout.

JucoRecruiting.com caught up with Isby to discuss his recruitment and what he is looking for in a program.  Isby doesn’t plan on taking any visits or cutting his list until right after the season.  He is focused on having a great year and winning a championship for his team.  When asked about what he is looking for in a program, he said “I want to go to a program where I am comfortable with the coaches, comfortable in the style of play, and just an overall best fit.”  The most important aspect for him is his relationship with the coaches. 

When asked about the style of play that he is looking for, he said “I am looking for a place where I will have the chances to create and make plays.  I really like using ball screens and when a team can really space the floor.”  Isby noted that he has really focused on his outside shooting and shooting off the dribble all off-season.  Isby shot 30% from 3 and 46% from the field last season and expects substantial increases in those percentages.     

The first time coaches can check out Isby in competition will be at the Danville Jamboree on October 2nd
