Raynere Thornton of Gordon State College is one of the most heavily recruited JUCO forwards in the country.  He had a great showing at the All American Top 80 in July and has impressed numerous coaches throughout the fall in workouts and practices.  At 6’6, he is a physical presence on the court and is always around the basket for rebounds.  Thornton is a confident ball handler and playmaker for his team and even brings the ball up as a point forward at times.  He can play with his back to the basket, as well as face up and put the ball on the floor to create for himself and others.  Last year, Thornton averaged close to a double double for the year averaging 9.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2 assists per game.  He also shot 29% from the 3-point line.  He is currently averaging 12.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

JucoRecruiting.com recently talked with Thornton about his offers and interests, what he is looking for in a program, and his plans for making a decision.

The following schools have given Thornton offers: Florida Atlantic, Arkansas Little Rock, South Carolina State, Southeastern Louisiana, Florida Gulf Coast, Savannah State, Iona, Georgia, Depaul, Kansas State, St. Louis, Jacksonville State, UTEP, Towson, Morehead State, Gardner Webb, SEMO, UNC Greensboro, Cal State Bakersfield and numerous Division 2 schools across the southeast. Additionally, Thornton has started to receive a lot of interest from West Virginia, California, Iowa State and Georgia Tech.

As of today, Thornton has only unofficially visited Georgia. After the season, he plans to cut down his list to five schools where he will take official visits.  Currently, his focus is on the season but also on his academics to make sure he graduates by the end of the spring semester.

When asked about what he is looking for in a program, he said, “I am looking for a place I can call home for the next two years, a place where I can graduate, and a place that can help me get to the next level”.  Thornton is open to any school as of right now and stated, “the location of my next school doesn’t really matter to me, if the place fits, it fits”.
