Javion Hamlet, 6'3 PG

Javion Hamlet (6’3, Point Guard) had a great freshman season at Motlow State, helping his team win the Region 7 (TN) Championship and reaching the Elite 8 in the National Tournament.  He was named 1st Team All Region 7, was the Region 7 Tournament MVP, and was a NJCAA 2nd Team All American.  In 27 minutes/game, Hamlet averaged 15.6 points per game, 8.4 assists per game, 2.1 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals per game.  He shot 55.4% from the field, 34.5% from 3 and 78.3% from the free throw line.

The lefty PG has great size and athletic ability for his position.  He can slide over and play the SG positon but likes to set up his teammates and create for others.  He is strong and can finish thru contact when attacking the basket.  He can create his own shot if he needs to and can finish in a variety of ways.  He has a great pull up jumper and a nice floater when he gets into the paint.  He has a great instinct for the game and a high IQ.  He is a great defender and can guard multiple positions on the perimeter. Head Coach Arthur Latham said this about Hamlet “The great thing about Javion is he plays with a chip on his shoulder and he is a gym rat.  When one of your better players stays in the gym, you know his teammates will follow.  Javion makes my job a whole lot easier.  Off the court, he is humble, respectful, and one of the best kids I’ve been around.  He has a lot of upside and look forward to coaching him next year.”

The guard from Memphis is a Qualifier and had several Division 1 schools calling to try to get him on their campus for next season.  However, Hamlet has decided to go back to Motlow for his sophomore season.  He will be one of the most sought after guards next season.  JucoRecruiting.com talked with Hamlet recently and here are the highlights of the Interview.

JucoRecruiting.com: You had a great freshman season, what are your goals for next season?

Hamlet: My goals for next season are to get better every day, to be more vocal, to lead my team to back to back Conference and Region Championships, win the National Tournament, win NJCAA Player of the Year, and to sign with a Division 1 program.

JucoRecruiting.com: What do you think is the best part of your game?

Hamlet: Being a playmaker. I can make plays for my teammates and create for myself as well.

JucoRecruiting.com: What’s one area of your game that you want to work on this off-season?

Hamlet: I’m working on everything but mostly shooting the 3 more consistently.

JucoRecruiting.com: You are a qualifier, what made you decide to go back to Motlow for your sophomore season?

Hamlet: I came back because I know that we have a chance to win a National Championship and we are going to have special team.  I am also trying to be the best player in JUCO.

JucoRecruiting.com: What are you going to be looking for in a school?

Hamlet: I want to go a program where the coaching staff is helping me achieve my aspirations and goals that I have set for myself on and off the court.

Expect Hamlet to have another great year for Motlow State as they make another run to the National Tournament.  Javion will be at the All American Elite 80 East in Atlanta July 15-16.
