NJCAA Top 25 Review: Teams 1-5

With the new NJCAA Poll coming out next week on December 5th, JucoRecruiting.com looks at the Top 25 teams and how they performed thru the first month of the 17-18 season and teams that will be considered in the next Poll.

1.  Hutchinson (8-1)

                Hutchinson CC is led by the sophomore duo of Devante Bandoo (14.4 ppg) and JJ Rhymes (19.1 ppg).  They have beaten #14 Coffeyville and their one loss came in conference to Cloud County 82-79.  Hutchinson plays 26 conference games in the Jayhawk.

2.  Northwest Florida State (9-0)

                Northwest Florida has beaten #9 Motlow State (81-64), #16 San Jacinto (95-69), and #21 Spartanburg Methodist (94-60).  The Raiders have 5 players averaging double digits: 6’4 Soph Kelvin Robinson (11.4 ppg), 6’10 Soph Derek Funderburk (10.8 ppg, NC State), 6’5 Fr Chris Duarte (12.3 ppg), 6’4 Soph Tray Boyd (16.8 ppg), and 6’2 Soph Andres Feliz (19.4 ppg).

3.  South Plains (5-3)

                South Plains has lost to #22 Arizona Western, Angelina, and Seminole State in the opening weeks of the season. They are led by Soph SG Jordan Brangers (Colorado State) who is averaging 24.4 ppg.  

                Next Game: Midland on November 29th

4.  Vincennes (10-0)

                Vincennes has wins over #5 Eastern Florida and #24 Wabash Valley.  6’2 CG Isaiah Tisdale is averaging 17.7 ppg and shooting 40.8% from 3 (4.9 attempts per game). 

                Next Game: Lincoln Trail on November 29th

5.  Eastern Florida State (7-1)

                Eastern Florida’s only loss of the year came against #4 Vincennes 83-78 on the road.  Soph PG Ahmed Ali (Kent State) is leading the team with 20.3 points per game and Soph F Eli Abaev is leading the team with 9.6 rebounds per game.
