The McLennan Highlanders are the JucoRecruiting.com Team of The Week for November 7-13, 2022.  Coach Kevin Gill has been no stranger to wins over top-ranked teams during his 20-year tenure at the helm, and he helped guide the Highlanders to another big win this week over #3 Kilgore. 

McLennan jumped out to a 29-19 lead at the half against Kilgore and continued their stellar defensive effort through the night. McLennan held Kilgore to 30% shooting from the field and 18% shooting from the three-point line. Nick Shogbonyo led McLennan with 16 pts & 6 assists in a 67-51 win at home.  McLennan is very solid on offense & doesn’t make a lot of mistakes in execution.  Year in and year out, Coach Gill’s teams are known for their defense, and this week they were exceptional and held their opponents to 53 PPG throughout the week. 

After defeating Kilgore at home, MCC beat Dallas College-Richland 73-48.  They were led by Jaylen Thompson who had 18pts on 3/5 3pt shooting.  One of only 2 returning sophomores CJ Hall had 14pts &5 asst while going 3/8 from deep.  The Highlanders wrapped up their week with a home win over Strength N Motion by a score of 97-60.
