Poll Shakeup

The NJCAA released its Week 2 Rankings earlier today, and it saw two new teams added to the mix after solid starts to the season. A pair of Jayhawk schools entered the polls this week, as Hutchinson (#22) and Cloud County (#24) both scored very convincing opening-night victories in league play. Hutch went on the road to Dodge City and came away with an 89-73 win, with Kamryn Thomas scoring 23 points. Cloud County upended Seward at home 82-57 behind 27 points from Ja'Ron Briggs and a 21-point/11-rebound effort from sophomore wing Cheik Sow. Mineral Area jumped 9 spots from #23 to #14 after dismantling previously ranked Northeast Mississippi at home 103-62. The home win moved the Cardinal to 8-0 on the year, with 3 ranked wins and an average margin of victory of 29 points in NJCAA action. The top 6 teams remained intact, with the Top 10 all being undefeated up to this point. Daytona State cracked the Top 10 with an unblemished record to remain one of 4 Region 8 (Florida) teams in the poll this week. Region 6 (Kansas) also posted 4 teams in this week's polls, with both regions from Texas (5 & 14) both accounting for 3 representatives. In all, 14 of the 25 teams hail from Kansas, Florida, and Texas junior colleges. The full rankings can be viewed here https://www.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/rankings/DI/index

Stat Stuffers

Through 3 weeks of action, 3 individuals come into the Thanksgiving Break averaging more than 25 points per contest. 6'1 Sophomore guard Dominic Gooden from Hillsborough tops the list, tallying 31.6 ppg. The previously mentioned Javonte Campbell of Northern-Oklahoma Tonkawa is at 28.3 ppg, and Indian River's 6'6 guard Mostapha El Moutaouakkil has been on a recent scoring tear, coming in at 26.8 ppg. Hillsborough has a pair of dominant rebounders in 6'7 Jaden Ezomo (15.8 rpg) and 6'5 Freshman Camerin James (15.5 rpg).

Holiday Tournaments

This week several schools will be hosting Thanksgiving tournaments across the country, and a full list will be posted on JucoRecruiting.com. Some notable events involving multiple ranked teams are the Pensacola State Thanksgiving Classic (Trinity Valley, Jones, Coastal Al-South, Northwest Florida, Gulf Coast, Pensacola State), The Collin County Thanksgiving Classic (South Plains, Odessa, New Mexico, Hill, Otero, Collin County), and The Moberly Area Thanksgiving Classic (Moberly, Vincennes, Highland, State Fair).

Century Mark for Wade

#17 Lee College in Baytown, TX recognized Head Coach Nick Wade this week for notching his 100th win in his career. The Navigators, who were NJCAA National Tournament participants a year ago, picked up a 105-75 win over Dallas-Eastfield, giving Wade 100 wins in just 5 seasons as a Head Coach in Region 14.
